David Fong (sophomore) and Richard Kerr (sophomore) will travel to Uganda this summer to install high efficiency clay ovens in the camps of internally displaced peoples. Inspired by a visit to Professor Hightower's Renewable Energy class from AidAfrica member Peter Keller last fall semester, the pair plans to construct the stoves as well as aid in medical relief efforts, from May 10 to June 10.

A Proposal for Programming Board: As the name "Sex on the Beach" no longer seems suitable for the dance as it no longer takes place a) on the beach or b) on Stewie Beach, I believe we need a new name for the dance, a snappy name that truly encapsulates the very essence of this event like "Sex on the Beach" did before it was moved to the quad.

This is too short to serve as an opinions article, but it's worth saying: There's a developer who plans on building a rather large condominium complex in Downtown LA. Housing downtown is always welcome, but there's a twist to this project. The developer plans to bathe the tower in an animated advertisement.

I'd like to respond to Henry Meier's analysis of the NBA's MVP race last week. I thought it was an excellent article, although I have to disagree with his pick of Kobe over Kevin Garnett. Though you give great respect to both players and their teams, you fail to mention how this success came to be. While Kobe all but demanded a trade out of LA this summer, KG came to Boston and immediately transformed our expectations from "second round" to "title."

Attention College Students: If you're going to wear flip-flops, make sure your feet don't look like they haven't seen a bar of soap and some clippers since your mother stopped grooming you. When you're in class, please don't put your feet up-especially next to the face of the person sitting in front of you in a stadium-seat classroom-and proceed to pick at your nasty, mangled toes.

A Bad Deal For America

Last Monday, President George W. Bush made a much publicized cameo appearance on the television game show Deal or No Deal. I found the pairing to be a perfect marriage. Here was a man who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has had a cushy life in which many things-some would say this includes the presidency-have been handed to him with little work done on his part. As I soon learned, Deal has the same money-for-nothing mentality.

When I think about the fashion sense of my generation, I cannot help but feel extremely disappointed and frustrated. Anyone who knows me well could tell you that I am by no means what one would consider a "fashionable" person, nor am I known for splurging on designer jeans and sneakers with price tags in the triple digits. I tend to stick to the philosophy "if it's comfortable, it works."

Henry: During the middle of this past fall, my dear friend Anthony suffered a minor injury while playing a "sport" called football. While nothing serious like cancer or an ingrown toenail occurred, apparently he punctured a lung or something while picking daisies on the 40-yard line. Being the big baby he is, he got all choked up about "not being able to breathe" and had his parents take him to the hospital so they could rub his back. As his friend, I had to spend time with him and try not to make fun of his crying about having "tubes inserted into to his chest cavity." Needless to say, it was a rough couple of weeks for me.

I was at the doctor's office the other day and, after checking my weight, the nurse asked me if I wanted to see how much my backpack weighed. I was curious, so I put it on the scale. It was full of what I consider to be a typical day's load-my laptop, its power charger, two 1" binders, and a paperback novel. She moved around the sliders on the scale until it read 16 pounds. I was astounded, but, there it was. "We calibrate the scale every morning," the nurse assured me.

I learned this when I went to Barcelona last year and saw English people all gathered in one establishment-a faux British pub in the city center.

This semester, as the Weekly's food critic, I committed myself to reviewing restaurants that-for one reason or another-represented a part of LA's diverse culture. It is for this reason that I drove to West LA to potentially rub elbows with celebrities at a crudely named Mexican restaurant (Pink Taco), donned a bow-tie to fit in with the wealthy 70-year-olds at a piano bar (Stoney Point) and tested the new frontiers of fast-food at a drive-thru vegan joint (Orean Health Food Express).

My journey began at LA's Nokia Theater, temporary home to Kanye West's sold-out Glow In The Dark Tour. Supplied by my concert companion with an overpriced pair of the hip-hop star's signature shutter glasses, I settled into my seat for an evening with West and his compatriots of hip-hop.
